Julia Roy-Williams
I'm a multidisciplinary artist, jewellery designer and creative facilitator whose practice explores the relationship between digital fabrication, material innovation and community engagement. Working across jewellery design, public art, installation and participatory workshops, I use digital manufacturing processes including 3D printing, CAD design and experimental making techniques to create tactile and socially engaged work. A significant part of my practice focuses on sustainable material development, particularly the use of recycled plastics, transforming waste materials into contemporary objects and wearable artworks through my jewellery brand WONDERHAUS.
My work explores themes of duality, identity, value and transformation, examining how digital technologies can exist alongside traditional hand-making methods and socially engaged practice. Alongside studio-based work, I develop collaborative projects with communities, charities and educational organisations, creating accessible creative experiences that encourage participation and skill-sharing.
The audience for my work includes contemporary craft and design audiences, gallery visitors, students and community participants. I am particularly interested in engaging people who may not traditionally access creative spaces, using participatory approaches to make digital technologies and creative making more inclusive and approachable.
Through exhibitions and collaborative projects, my practice aims to create meaningful connections between people, materials and emerging technologies while advocating for sustainability and accessibility within contemporary craft.
