Liz Wewiora
Liz is a visual artist, curator-producer and educator, with over fifteen years experience specialising in socially engaged and collaborative approaches to practice. She is currently the Head of Social Practice at Open Eye Gallery, lecturer at the University of Salford and has a studio at Paradise Works.
Her work often takes place outside of the gallery context, via residencies with health and social care, youth, social housing and environmental settings. As an artist she has undertaken commissions with organisations such as Allotment Society UK, NHS England, Age UK and Centre Point to AA2A residency, Open Eye Gallery, Museum of Liverpool and Manchester Histories. Her work often starts with photography but often shifts into textiles, installations, video or publications, depending on the focus and interests of those she is collaborating with.
In recent years Liz has focused her work around the drastic changes to the health of our waterways in the UK. This includes a current practice as research project Roam, River Roam, collaborating with diverse communities and across the North West, and students from University of Salford, exploring their relationships to and future aspirations for their local rivers.
